Apple Picking

On Friday, Jay got out of work early so we picked Savannah up after school & headed to the apple orchard for a little fall fun.  Apple picking is the one thing we have done every year since Savannah was born.  It's always so much fun.  The weather was absolutely beautiful.  Low 80's & sunny!

Doing the side bite since she has another loose tooth

Oh these two!  Swoon.....

Before we left we enjoyed some homemade treats from the snack bar.  We had an apple cider donut & the most delicious vanilla ice cream.  After that, the kids spent a little time on the playground.

First Day of Dance

Yesterday Savannah started Dance Class!  The first class was actually last Monday but she missed it because she was sick.  She was sent home from school after lunch with a low temp & a head cold.  She was so upset when I told her she wasn't able to go to class last week.

Savannah had a great time picking out her Dis.ney Prin.cess leotards & her shoes.  She will have class every Monday for 45 minutes.  Her class is both Ballet & Jazz. They have a closed door classroom but they have a camera in the room that plays onto a TV in the waiting room.  It was beyond adorable to watch.  Savannah fit right in and wasn't shy at all.  I'm so proud of her.  She is already excited to go back.

Edaville USA

I have been wanting to go on a family trip to Eda.ville U.SA since last year.  So when I learned that they were having a meet & greet with Curi.ous Geo.rge & The M.an with the Yel.low Ha.t this weekend I thought it was the perfect time to go.  The 90 minute drive sounded easy since we drove to Upstate NY two weeks ago (4 hour drive).  I have learned that car rides are much smoother when your are listening to a Barney CD.  As annoying as it is, it's better than crying kids.

The meet & greet part was pretty lame.  The Man & George just stood on a little stage and posted for pictures with everyone.  No talking or performance.  Boo!

We went on a train ride around the property and that was pretty fun.  The place was almost on Ca.pe C.od so we got see all cranberry bogs.  We also saw fish & turtles swimming in the rivers along the side of the tracks.  Shane was getting pretty bored by the time we were done.

They had about 10 classic amusement rides for the children.  Shane was able to go on about half of them.  It was so much fun!

Savannah and I went on this ride together.  It was the one with the wheel in the center.  The more you turn the wheel the faster it whips you around.  Savannah loved it!

Back to School

I have been going out of my mind this summer with two busy kids.  My house is a mess.  Things are crazy busy.  Jay is building two houses on top of working his usual 40 hours at work.  We have been trying to sneak in a few quick trips which means  SO.MUCH.PACKING/UNPACKING.  Life has just been crazy.

Today is the first day of kindergarten.  A day I have been looking forward to for weeks.  So why is it that now that the day is finally here I am freaking out with anxiety?  I can't believe I am expected to drop my baby off at a school full of strangers for 6 hours a day/5 days a week.  It's just insane.

Yesterday at Meet The Teacher

So today is the first day and I really hated to drop my baby girl off.  I am not sure why this year is so much harder years prior.  Maybe it's the new school?  The old Pre-School/Kindergarten building was closed and both were moved to this school.  Maybe it's the 5 days a week part?  I don't know but I have been sick about it for the past two days.

(my goddaughter's brother)

In a few weeks I am going to try and get Savannah to start taking the bus.  Two of our neighbor's go on the bus & my niece who lives down the road.  It's going to be a major pain to drive down town twice a day/5 days a week to bring her & pick her up.

So now that will have naptime to myself from now on I am really going to try to be a better blog.ger.  I have big plans for naptime.  I am going to start a new exercise schedule, clean, cook & blog!  Woooo!  This is a definite plus to school.

We got home from Maine on Monday night and are leaving for New York on Friday morning so I am busy with that.  Hope to get into the new routine next week.

Garden Love

I have been such a slacker when it comes to blogging & I really miss it.  Our life in the summer is super busy & I have been having a really hard time finding a spare moment to put together a post at the end of the day.  Having two kids who are wild and crazy is hard!  My brain in usually fried by the time they are both in bed.

I thought it would do a post to document our garden.  For the past few years we have pretty much only grown tomatoes, peppers & herbs.  We love to grow tomatoes and I stew them to make spaghetti sauce.  I make a few large batches late August/early September and freeze it for the whole year.

This year we dreamed BIG and expanded from two small raised beds to a HUGE 28 x 22 garden (we also kept the small beds for beans & herbs).  We wanted everything to be GMO free, organic & mostly heirloom.  I am so proud that everything has done really well except our broccoli.  I am not really sure what happened because the broccoli was one of the few things we purchased from a local farm.  Mostly everything else we grew from seed.

Tomatoes, green & yellow squash, broccoli, lettuce & onions

Tomatoes, carrots, swiss chard, onions & beets

This is Savannah with our first real "harvest"

This was tonight's dinner.
Green beans & tomatoes from our garden.  Summer squash casserole with squash & onion from our garden.  Popover made with eggs from of hens.  Spice rubbed chicken breast from the meat birds that we raised.

I hope to do a post on our chickens at some point.  They are so wonderful & we just love them!  They are our girls.

Great Day for A Swim

A few weeks ago Savannah came home from school with a notice about swimming lessons.  I always took swim class at the local pond when I was little so I thought this would be great things for Savannah to do too.  She can have a hard time adjusting to new people/situations so I wasn't sure how swim class would go but we signed up anyways.

Today was the first of 7 classes and Savannah did AWESOME!!!  I couldn't be anymore proud of her.  This is the first week of classes (school just let out of Friday) and we wanted the 9am slot because of Shane's nap schedule.  There was only 1 other child who signed up!  This was actually perfect for Savannah.  Two instructors and two students=1 on 1 attention!

Savannah did everything that she was asked to do with the exception of bobbing under water.  She wouldn't jump off the dock into the water at the beginning of class but she did by the end.  Hopefully she will feel confident enough by the end of lessons to go under.  If not, there is always next year!

Shane had a great time on the beach while his sister was swimming.
